What should I do about urgent symptoms?
Telehealth is not an emergency service. Some symptoms need immediate in person care.
These answers describe how telehealth care generally works. Your provider will confirm anything that applies specifically to you.
Call emergency services first
For chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or trouble speaking, severe allergic reactions, heavy bleeding, thoughts of harming yourself, or any other emergency, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
Do not wait for a telehealth appointment, a reply from the care team, or an answer from an educational page in an emergency.
Urgent but not an emergency
New or worsening symptoms that worry you deserve prompt attention, even when they are not an emergency. Contact your care team about the fastest appropriate option, which may be an in person visit rather than a virtual one.
If a laboratory or clinician contacts you about an urgent result, follow their instructions right away.
