What to notice
Describe difficulty falling asleep, waking during the night, waking early, or feeling unrefreshed. Mention snoring, breathing pauses reported by someone else, and daytime sleepiness.
Possible contributing factors
Schedules, stress, medicines, pain, and sleep disorders can affect rest. Sleep changes during life transitions should not automatically be attributed to hormones.
When to seek care
Arrange evaluation for persistent sleep problems, breathing pauses, or significant daytime sleepiness. Avoid driving when sleepy. Severe breathing difficulty needs urgent care.
Questions to bring
- Could a sleep disorder or medicine be contributing?
- What approaches have evidence for my sleep concern?
- When should we reassess or consider specialist care?
